Experience winemaking at its finest during this vacation arranged especially for two couples looking for a unique adventure. This package features two days and nights in Le Barroux, France, during the Provencal harvest.
Your stay will include accommodations at a bed and breakfast in Le Barroux, adjacent to the old-world style Clos de Trias winery in the foothills of Mount Ventoux. Your days will begin harvesting grapes in the morning with friends and family of the winemaker. A gourmet luncheon prepared by the former owner of the well-known Oslo restaurant in Stamford, CT will follow, featuring a wine tasting from the Clos de Trias cellars.
In the afternoons, join the winery staff in sorting grapes from the morning harvest, or try your hand at some work in the wine cellar. Then feast on a Provencal supper of salads, soups and local cheeses enhanced by excellent wine and conversation. (English is the primary but not the only language spoken.)
Day two is a repeat of day one, with a new menu of locally grown foods. Schedule between Sept. 25 and Oct. 15, 2013 or 2014 to enjoy the full harvest experience. Artist Dorothy Gillespie celebrated color in her two and three dimensional works, which include paintings, collages, murals and sculpture. A graduate of the Maryland Institute of Art, the Art Students League and Atelier 17 of Stanley Hayter, the artist was active in the women’s art movement, and was featured in a 2006 solo exhibition at the Boca Raton Museum of Art. Her work has been exhibited at Walt Disney World and Rockefeller Center; much is on display at Radford University Art Museum in Radford, Virginia, where she was an art professor, and in Roanoke where she grew up. Her works were well known and displayed internationally; she particularly enjoyed creating works for public spaces. Offered for bid is her 1987 contemporary sculpture (3-pieces) 44”x40”x15” multicolored enamel on aluminum from her Rain Dance seriesand an autographed monograph on her art and lift titled Dorothy Gillespie.
